Education in prisons

Under international law, no one may be deprived of the right to an education. Prisoners have the same rights to education and training as other Norwegian citizens. The county authorities are academically and administratively responsible for the education provision in prisons. The practical responsibility for teaching lies with local upper secondary schools. The County Governor of Vestland has overall national responsibility for all teaching within the correctional services.
